Revitalize tired soil with Basalt Rock Dust, a finely ground volcanic rock that restores calcium, iron, magnesium and dozens of trace minerals that harvests and watering gradually draw out of garden soil.

Milled to a fine powder for faster breakdown, this lab-tested rock dust releases its minerals slowly, feeding soil life and plants season after season. Use it in potting mixes, raised beds, garden beds and compost to build mineral-rich, living soil.

Basalt is a dark volcanic rock formed from cooled lava, and it's one of the most widely used rock dusts for remineralizing soil. Over time, harvests and rainfall carry minerals out of garden soil, and many potting mixes start with very few. Basalt Micro-Fines puts them back, supplying calcium, iron and magnesium along with a broad range of trace elements such as manganese, zinc, copper and cobalt.

Unlike soluble fertilizers, rock dust doesn't deliver a quick dose of nutrients. Its minerals are released gradually as the particles weather and as soil microbes and plant roots work on them. Because these micro-fines are ground to a fine powder, they have more surface area and break down faster than coarser rock dusts, while still feeding the soil steadily over time.

Basalt also contains silica, which plants take up gradually to build sturdier stems and cell walls. Restoring rock minerals supports a healthy soil food web, making basalt a natural foundation for living soil, no-till beds and organic gardens. Basalt Micro-Fines helps create a robust soil ecosystem, supporting nutrient cycling, stronger plant structure, and a resilient growing environment—key factors in healthier harvests and consistent yields.

The basalt has been independently lab-tested, with arsenic and lead below detection limits. It's a gentle, all-purpose remineralizer you can use throughout the garden.

  • Slow, steady mineral release that feeds soil life season after season
  • Contains silica for sturdier stems and cell walls
  • Adds paramagnetic energy to the soil, encouraging microbial activity and a thriving growing medium
  • Enhances drought tolerance and salt tolerance by boosting root system resilience
  • Independently lab-tested, with arsenic and lead below detection limits
  • Natural foundation for living soil and no-till gardening
  • Made in the USA
  • Trusted by gardeners and growers seeking healthier, living soil

Ideal For:

  • Potting mixes and containers
  • Raised beds
  • In-ground garden beds
  • Vegetable gardens
  • Compost piles
  • Living soil and no-till systems
  • Organic gardening

Application:

Mix Basalt Micro-Fines in where roots will grow, and keep the soil moist so soil life can begin breaking it down.

  • Potting mixes: Mix 1 to 2 cups per cubic foot of potting mix before planting.
  • Raised beds and garden beds: Spread 1/2 to 1 cup per square foot, work it into the top 6 inches of soil and water in.
  • Established container plants: Sprinkle about 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil over the surface, scratch it in lightly and water.
  • Compost: Add 1 to 2 cups per cubic foot of material, dusting it over each new layer as you build the pile.

Reapply once a year, or whenever you refresh or reuse potting soil.

Safety tip: Like all fine rock dusts, basalt can irritate the lungs if inhaled. Wear a dust mask when handling it, apply on a calm day and water in after spreading.
