Botanica Paper Co.: Botanical Prints on European Linen

Nothing in this collection is plain cloth: every piece carries a botanical illustration, and the one that shows the whole idea best is the Botanist tea towel. It is a rectangle of 100% premium European linen, 17 by 27 inches, printed in safe non-toxic inks with the sort of floral and greenery study you would find in an old plant identification book, and finished with a hanging loop so it can live on the oven door instead of in a drawer. Botanist is also the only artwork in this collection that comes two ways: as that tea towel, and as a set of linen table napkins. Everything else here is one or the other, built to the same specification, carrying a different illustration.

Choosing a print

The artwork is the real decision. Wild Flowers is the other classic pressed-botanical study; Poppies and Flowering Trees carry more color; Songbirds puts birds among the branches. Herb Garden is culinary, Mushrooms goes woodland and slightly whimsical, Apple Orchard and Pear Orchard take fruit, and Autumn covers the harvest end of the year in warm seasonal florals. Patterns rotate in and out of the range, so the grid above this text is the live list rather than a fixed catalogue.

Why the cloth is linen

Linen fibers are naturally strong, absorbent and long-lasting, and the fabric stays lightweight while doing that work. It is also one of the few materials that improves with handling: it softens naturally with every wash while keeping its texture and strength. Expect the first few washes to change the feel noticeably. That is linen behaving the way linen behaves, not a towel wearing out.

Measures 17 by 27 inches: every tea towel is cut to the same generous size and finished with the same hanging loop, so a stack of them hangs and folds consistently whether they are drying dishes or styling a countertop.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified materials: every tea towel is made with them and printed using safe, non-toxic inks. The standard tests textiles against strict global limits for harmful substances, which is worth checking on any cloth that touches plates, glasses and hands several times a day.

Napkins for the table

Garden Flora, Botanist and Russet come as table napkins, sold in sets of two and cut from 100% European organic linen. The fabric behaves the same way it does in the towels — soft, breathable, naturally durable, better after each wash — applied to the table instead of the sink. Each set arrives folded with a decorative ribbon and a tag, which is most of the reason they leave the house as housewarming and hostess gifts. A pair of cloth napkins is also the reusable answer to a stack of disposable paper ones, and that case does not need dressing up.

Care is the same across the whole collection: machine wash cold with similar colors, tumble dry gently or hang to air dry, and no bleach. Steam iron if you want a crisp finish, on the reverse side for the printed towels, or skip the iron and let the linen sit slightly rumpled.
