Outdoor Saunas: Your Backyard Wellness Retreat

An outdoor sauna turns an ordinary backyard or garden into a private space for heat therapy, recovery, and quiet. Step out the back door, settle into steady, enveloping heat, and let the day's tension go: no spa membership, no drive, no waiting. The outdoor saunas in our collection are built from durable, weather-resistant timber and paired with proven heaters, so they stand up to the seasons and reward you with years of relaxation.

Regular sauna sessions are one of the simplest wellness habits you can build at home. The heat helps loosen tired muscles, supports circulation, eases everyday stress, and many owners find it leads to deeper, easier sleep. A few minutes of warmth, fresh air between rounds, and a moment of stillness: that's the whole appeal of a backyard sauna.

Find the right type of outdoor sauna

Choosing the best outdoor sauna comes down to how many people will use it, the space you have, and the look you want for your yard.

Barrel saunas: The classic round profile heats fast and sheds rain and snow naturally. A barrel sauna is a favorite for its efficient warm-up and timeless look, with models seating from three up to six people.

Cabin saunas: A roomier, cottage-style retreat with two-level benching that lets you cycle between high and low heat, a four-person backyard centerpiece you'll use year-round.

Larger saunas: Larger designs with extra headroom and wide two-tier benches. The mid-size model comfortably hosts six, and the largest seats up to eight, ideal for families and gatherings.

2-person saunas: A compact 2 person outdoor sauna fits smaller yards, gardens, patios, and decks without sacrificing the full heat-therapy experience.

Electric heat made simple

Our cabin-style saunas come ready with a Made-in-Finland 8kW electric heater. Choose the standard model for straightforward dial control, with a delay timer of up to eight hours and an automatic shut-off, or the Wi-Fi version for app-connected scheduling so the cabin is warm when you are. Either way, the cabin reaches a true, even sauna temperature and holds it, and you can pour water over the rocks for a cleansing burst of steam. Our Nordic Spruce barrel saunas let you add the heater of your choice (sold separately) to match your setup.

Built from weather-resistant timber

Because these saunas live outside, materials matter. Several of our cabin-style models are crafted from heat-treated hemlock thermowood: thermal modification improves stability and resistance to rot and moisture, so the cabin withstands the elements with minimal upkeep, and many models carry FSC certification for responsible sourcing. Our barrel saunas use carefully selected Nordic Spruce, with curved Thermo-Aspen benches for comfort. The cabin-style saunas ship as kits with pre-cut, interlocking panels and need no sawing or cutting. Barrel saunas take one to two days to assemble with a helper. Every model needs a flat, solid base such as concrete, pavers, or a level deck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth getting an outdoor sauna?

For most owners, yes. An outdoor sauna gives you on-demand heat therapy at home (relaxation, muscle recovery, and stress relief without ongoing spa fees), and a well-built unit becomes a lasting fixture of your backyard wellness routine.

What is the best sauna for outdoor use?

The best outdoor sauna is one matched to your space and group size, built from weather-resistant wood, and fitted with a properly sized heater. Barrel and two-person models suit smaller yards and quick warm-ups; cabin and larger models suit families and frequent gatherings.

Do I need to assemble it myself?

Yes, the saunas ship as kits. Cabin-style models use pre-cut, interlocking panels and can be built in a few hours with basic DIY skills, with no sawing or cutting. Barrel saunas take one to two days with a helper.

Where should I put my outdoor sauna?

Set it on a flat, stable foundation such as a concrete pad, pavers, or a reinforced deck, in the backyard or garden, with room around it for airflow and easy access. A spot near the house keeps it convenient through every season.

How do I maintain an outdoor sauna?

Heat-treated hemlock and Nordic Spruce are built for low maintenance. Wipe the benches after each use, let the sauna air out, and clean the interior periodically. With simple care, a quality outdoor sauna lasts for many years.
