About Urban Worm Company

Urban Worm Company is a trusted name in home vermicomposting — built around the idea that anyone can turn kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich worm castings without the mess, smell, or guesswork. Best known for the Urban Worm Bag, the brand makes a complete ecosystem of worm-composting gear: the continuous-flow bin itself, the worm food that feeds it, and the bedding, blankets, and amendments that keep a worm bin healthy year-round. At Eartheasy we carry the full Urban Worm Company lineup so you can start a worm farm in one order and keep it thriving for years.

The heart of the collection is the Urban Worm Bag Version 2 — a continuous-flow worm composter that holds up to 5.3 cubic feet (~122 L) of vermicompost on a tool-free support frame. Instead of dumping the whole bin to collect your compost, you feed the worms from the top and harvest finished castings from the removable, zipper-free bottom, so the worms keep working undisturbed above. It runs best between 40°F and 80°F, takes only a few minutes a week to maintain, and is backed by a lifetime warranty on materials and craftsmanship when kept indoors.

Round out your setup with everything the Urban Worm Bag needs to perform. Urban Worm Chow is a protein-rich worm food that supplements regular food-scrap feeding. Urban Worm Coco Coir is a 5kg compressed coconut-fiber block that makes ideal, renewable worm bedding. The jute Urban Worm Blanket holds in moisture and keeps the top layer dark and active, and the Garden & Compost Thermometer lets you keep the bin in its ideal range.

New to worm composting? The Worm Composter Success Bundle and Worm Bin Accessory Bundle package the essentials together, while the Premium Amendment Bundle of organic worm castings, biochar, and mycorrhizae feeds your soil straight from the finished compost.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Urban Worm Bag work?

The Urban Worm Bag is a continuous-flow composter. Composting worms live in the upper layers, where you add food scraps and fresh bedding and the worms tend to stay near the top. Mature castings settle toward the bottom, which you harvest through the removable, zipper-free base without emptying the bin or disturbing the active colony above. No trays to stack, no full bin to empty.

What should you not put in a worm bin?

Avoid animal products such as meat, dairy, or fats, and limit citrus and acidic fruit skins, onions, garlic, and spicy foods, as these can smell, attract pests, or harm the worms. Stick to most fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, crushed eggshells, and small amounts of bread or grains, and bury food under bedding to keep the bin odor-free.

Which Urban Worm Company products do I need to get started?

At minimum, the Urban Worm Bag Version 2, bedding such as coco coir, and composting worms. The Worm Composter Success Bundle and Worm Bin Accessory Bundle pull the essentials together so you don't have to buy each piece separately.

How do I harvest castings from the Urban Worm Bag?

The Urban Worm Bag uses continuous-flow harvesting. Remove the patented, zipper-free bottom and place it underneath the bag to collect finished castings from the lowest layer, while you keep feeding fresh scraps and bedding at the top. There is never a full emptying of the bin.
