Overview

The Pet Poo Composter uses the power of worms, with the help of other great microbes found in your soil, to turn your pet's waste into castings. These castings are then dispersed through the bottom section of the composter to the surrounding area around the unit, which means you'll never have to move, harvest or touch your dogs business after its been put into the composter.

This composter's in-ground and insulated design allows the worms to survive in colder than usual climates so that it can continue composting. This worm composter is designed to compost kitchen scraps with a ratio of 50:50 kitchen scraps and dog poop. We recommend starting with 2 lbs of worms at least in your Pet Poo Composter.

Features & Benefits:

  • Compost your pet's waste along with your kitchen scraps
  • Enrich your soil with nutrients and minerals
  • In-ground design allows the castings to be dispersed themselves, no harvesting required
  • Insulated to keep your worms working even in colder climates
  • Sturdy, non-slip foot pedal to open and close the lid
  • Fitted lids ensures the unit is vermin-proof
  • Add 6-9 lbs of waste per week
  • 1 year manufacturer's warranty

Please note the Pet Poo Composter does not include composting worms, which can be purchased here, or from a variety of local and online sources.

Location:

You can place your Pet Poo Worm Composter in a sunny or shade part of your yard! That being said, we do not recommend these units to go in/beside an herb or vegetable garden. You will need to prepare a 16" square hole that is at least 13". If you have heavy clay soils, dig your hole deeper and add 3" of stones/gravel to help with drainage.

Once you've added the starting population of worms (at least 2lbs), wait 5-7 days before adding food and pet waste so that the worms can adjust to their new home!

Taking Care of Your Worms:

You don't need to feed your worms every day – just add scraps as you have them. Worms can survive up to 2 weeks without any new food. We recommend starting with at least 2lbs of worms. Worms reproduce inside the bin according to their space limitations. They will regulate their own population, so you never need to worry about overcrowding your bin.

It is very important that the Pet Poo is not overfed. Worms prefer to eat their food as it begins to decompose, but not if it has become slimy and smelly. You should not add more than 1" of new scraps at once time, and uneaten food should not exceed 2" deep. A good rule of thumb is if you see worms actively engaging at the top of the bin, you can add more!

What to Feed your Worms:

Most fruit and vegetable scraps, pulps from juicer
Cooked food
Tea leaves/bags and coffee grounds
Crushed/ground eggshells
Hair, vacuum cleaner dust, soiled paper, tissue, paper towels, shredded egg cartons
Shredded newspaper, cardboard, sawdust (untreated), wood ash
Lawn clippings in small quantities, weeds, clippings, prunings, dirt and leaves

What to Avoid or Limit:

Limit citrus and acidic fruit skin
Limit bread, pasta and other wheat based products
Avoid hard fruit pits
Avoid spice foods, onions, garlic and leeks
Avoid animal products such as meat, dairy, or fats
Do not feed rotten food to your worms

Please note, pet waste compost should be kept separate from other compost and is best used on ornamental — not edible — gardens, and kept well away from streams, groundwater or vegetable and fruit crops. With the Pet Poo, ensure the location is no within your edible garden space.
