Cedar Raised Garden Beds and Planters That Hold Their Corners
The corner is where a wooden bed usually gives up. Screws back out, nails work loose, and two wet winters later the joints gap while the soil pushes from inside. None of them depend on a fastener at the corner. The board ends are notched to overlap, and rust-proof stainless steel pins drop straight down through the joint. Cedar swells in April and shrinks in August; the pin lets it move, then holds it. Pins match the height you order, so the tops finish flush and the bed can sit on a lawn, on gravel, or on a patio.
Stack the Boards to the Height You Want
Side boards are resawn cedar, a full inch thick and 5 1/2 inches high. Two stacked make an 11-inch bed, three make 16.5 inches, four make 22. Past that a trim pack is required, which takes the Natural Cedar beds to 27.5 and 33 inches. The Natural Cedar line carries a five-year manufacturer's warranty; the Classic line, which leaves off the trim boards and costs less, carries three. Long spans need help against wet soil, so rust-proof steel crossbars come with the rectangular Natural Cedar and Classic beds from 5 feet up, the trellis versions from 6 feet up, and every L- and U-shaped bed. Basic beds assemble with no tools. Trim pieces and planter legs use included screws, so keep a power screwdriver nearby, and let the boards sit in a shed three to five days first so they acclimate.
Shapes for Yards That Are Not Rectangles
Squares and rectangles cover the ordinary row garden in hundreds of size combinations, and they sit open at the bottom so roots reach the soil already there. The rest of the collection exists for awkward ground. L-shaped beds tuck into the corner of a fence line, or pair up to enclose a growing area. U-shaped beds come in 7.5-foot, 9-foot, and 12-foot widths with a central pathway, so you can reach the middle without standing on the soil. Octagons and hexagons, built from kiln-dried Oregon cedar in equal-sided and elongated boat shapes, cluster into honeycomb patterns or stand alone. Custom sizes are quoted through the contact form.
Planters for Decks, Patios, and Balconies
Not every garden has ground to dig. Cedar planter boxes stand on 3 1/2-inch legs over a slatted cedar base, so water drains away and your deck stays dry; no liner needed, landscape fabric optional. The wood in them is untreated kiln-dried cedar, safe for vegetables, herbs, and edibles. Elevated planters all stand 34 inches tall, roughly waist height, and you pick the planting depth: 11 inches for most vegetables, herbs, and flowers, or 16.5 inches for deep-rooted crops. Both lines carry volume discounts for schools, organizations, and landscapers.
Trellises Sized to What They Attach To
Cucumbers, peas, beans, and flowering vines crop better with something to climb. Trellis height follows the piece it belongs to. Raised beds take a standard 48-inch trellis in straight, L, and U shapes. A 22-inch planter box gets that same 48-inch trellis; a 28-inch box gets a 42-inch one. Elevated planters carry a 36-inch trellis, putting the whole unit at 70 inches. Standalone A-frames come in 42-, 48-, and 60-inch heights; wall-mounted panels fit a fence, shed, or garage wall. Both use 1-inch cedar crosspieces with rounded edges that will not cut into stems, dadoed into a grid: 4.75-inch squares on the A-frames, 4.5 to 5 inches on the wall-mounted panels.
The smallest Classic bed is a two-foot square, one board high; the 12-foot U-shapes run out to 20 feet across and 33 inches tall. Left unfinished, cedar weathers to a soft gray on its own.
