This collection is our answer to what that stuff should be made of: organic cotton instead of synthetics against the skin, solid wood instead of molded plastic in the toy box, finishes and dyes chosen so nobody has to think twice about what ends up in a mouth. The outdoor wing

The showpieces live outside, in four collections of their own. Every product here had to answer the same questions before it got in. What is it made of, and would we want that material in our own house? Does it survive real use — the teething, the yard, the washing machine — or is it one season from a landfill? And does it leave room for the child to do the interesting part? A wooden greenhouse the size of a doll house, a swing frame that takes most toddler seats, a crayon that is just wax and pigment: none of it needs a screen or a battery, and all of it works the way it looks like it works.

Plastic appears only where it genuinely earns its place — a UV-resistant water wall, the vinyl coating that lets a harvest basket be hosed out — and the default everywhere else is wood, cotton and wool.
