Overview

Look forward to the feeding frenzy that will start once your Native Dogwood shrub produces berries. It has been estimated that the fatty, high-energy fruits are relished by hundreds of birds - among them, robins, cardinals, catbirds, and Cedar Waxwings. If you live in the country or keep poultry, ducks, turkeys, and quail will join in on the feast.

Native Red Twig Dogwood: Prized for golden orange and fiery red leaves, this Dogwood is grown primarily for their stems, which turn a candy-apple-red color in winter. Birds don’t care about that, however—they love their plump white berries. This Dogwood will mature to be 6-9' tall, and 8-12' wide. Good for zones 3-7. As fruits ripen, you may notice Cedar Waxwings, Purple Finches, catbirds, titmice, grosbeaks, robins, cardinals, kingbirds, bluebirds and more. Native to the Western and Northern parts of the United States.

Native Roughleaf Dogwood: Enjoy star-shaped, cream-white flowers in early Spring. This striking native shrub produces jewel-tone berries that progress from porcelain-blue to cobalt as they ripen. This Dogwood will mature to be 6-12' tall, and 6-12' wide. Good for zones 5-8. Await species like Cedar Waxwings, robins, Purple Finches, Evening Grosbeaks, bluebirds, cardinals, kingbirds, and Downy Woodpeckers. Native to Eastern and Central United States.

Native Silky Dogwood: Admire intricate, star-shaped flowers in early Spring. This multi-stemmed shrub offers plump white berries to birds and other wildlife in late summer and early fall. This Dogwood will mature to be 6-15' tall, and 6-15' wide. Good for zones 5-8. At least 45 species of birds enjoy this dogwood, including robins, cardinals, catbirds, and Cedar Waxwings. Native to the Eastern United States.

Native Southern Swamp Dogwood: Clusters of petite white blossoms coat the shrub as the lance-shaped foliage adds an elegant backdropWhite berries take the place of the blooms and the gray-green leaves turn to a dusty purple/red in fall. As the berries die off, the red of the stems provide an early winter interest. This shrub will mature to be 6-15' tall, and 6-15' wide. Good for zones 4-9. A feast for orioles, chickadees, Northern Mockingbirds, wood warblers, and many other local birds. Native to South-Eastern United States.
