Overview

Unique and bursting with flavor, Champion Common Quince is the unusual fruit tree your backyard or food forest will cherish. Not only are the trees wonderfully fragrant, but their twisting and tangled branches are beautiful to watch through the seasons. Champion is a very hardy variety that does not suffer from many pests or diseases.

Pear-like in appearance, Champion Quince has golden, fuzzy skin that ripens in late fall. Their fruits can be roasted, and make wonderful jam and jellies. Due to the cold winters experienced in the US, some quince trees are not able to fully ripen their fruits, giving them an astringent flavor that disappears when cooked. If located in an area with warm winters, quince fruits can be properly ripened on the tree and eaten fresh.

Features & Benefits:

  • "Cydonia oblonga 'Champion'"
  • Quince are rich in vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants
  • Fruit is naturally rich in pectin
  • Grows in full sun to partial shade
  • White to pale pink blooms in the spring
  • Fruits in late fall
  • Arrives bare root, roughly 48" tall and 18" wide
  • Mature size ranges from 12-15' tall and 9-12' wide
  • Grown & shipped from the USA

Care Instructions:

Watering: Water your Quince daily for the first 3-5 weeks; then water 2-3 times a week for the remainder of the year until winter. Watering needs may be altered due to extreme weather conditions. Continue to water during droughts or extreme heat for the first couple years.

Soil/Conditions: Quince prefers well-draining, acidic, fertile soil. Champion Quince can thrive in moist to wet soil types with good drainage.

Quince trees fruit on new growth, not old, so we recommend pruning annually in late fall or into winter. Remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches each year. Pruning each year keeps your tree healthy and encourages new growth.

Shipping & Delivery:

All Bower & Branch plants are fresh from the grower and shipped in specialized grower packaging. Plants are shipped on specific days depending on your location to reduce days in transit.

Quince starts shipping mid February and continues through May. Shipping is not available year-round.
