FAQs
Do you have a recommendation for a clear sealer or stain?
Yes, you can definitely add a sealant or stain. We offer "Eco Wood Treatment", as one option. Eco Wood Treatment works by penetrating wood fibers to create a natural buffer against water and fungal decay. It increases wood's durability while creating an aged, silvery patina after just a few hours.
What is a trim pack?
Our Natural Cedar Raised Garden Beds are equipped with trim for an attractive finish and increased durability, especially for taller raised beds. The trim covers the lap joints and locks the boards in place to prevent separation on uneven ground.
The trim pack consists of pre-drilled 3-1/4 inch wide top rails and corner moldings that attach to the raised bed with included stainless steel screws.
Our Classic Natural Cedar Raised Beds do not include this trim pack.
We highly recommend ordering the raised beds with the trim pack option, particularly for 16.5" and taller beds (22", 27.5" and 33" heights).
How easy is the assembly?
Our cedar raised garden beds and planters are easy to assemble with 1-2 people and basic tools. You can review the video for our raised garden bed assembly here, and the video for our planter box assembly here.
Can I request a custom size?
If you haven’t found the size you’re looking for, please fill out our contact form, including any specific size information, and reference the product that interests you.
Is there a warranty?
A 5-year Limited Warranty is included for planters and raised garden beds with trim packs, and a 3-year Limited Warranty is provided for Classic Natural Cedar Raised Garden Beds (without trim packs).
Can the planters be left outside, year round?
Yes! While we recommend having them under cover for extended lifespan, there is nothing wrong with leaving your planters outside over winter. They should be able to withstand any snow-load as well.
Can I create a cloche over the raised beds?
Yes! You can leave the corner pins slightly protruding and then slide some thin PVC pipe over them, bending the pipe in a hoop to the other side of the bed. Then drape clear plastic over the pipe and affix with zip-ties.
Does this come with a liner? If not, do you have a liner to purchase as an accessory?
No, the planters do not come with liners, nor do we have liners available. From our experience, they are not necessary, although you can choose to line your planters with landscape fabric if you wish. To get a better idea as to what the interior of the planters looks like, please review our assembly video.
What is the best soil to fill raised beds and planters with?
Raised beds can be filled with soil or a mixture of soil and other organic materials. Deep raised beds can be costly to fill entirely with soil, so we recommend the “lasagna method” of layering materials such as leaves, grass clippings, cardboard, and your chosen soil mix.
Find more information about filling raised beds and the lasagna method, see our article 3 Useful Soil Mixes for Planters and Raised Beds.
How do I calculate soil volume for raised beds and planters?
To figure out how much soil you need to fill square or rectangular raised beds, multiply the length, width, and height and divide the total by 27. This is how many cubic yards you need to fill your raised beds.
You can find soil volume calculations for L-shaped beds, U-shaped beds, hexagonal beds, and octagonal beds in our guide How to Calculate Soil Volume for Raised Garden Beds.
