Overview

The European Nightcrawlers will be shipped with worms ranging from 2"- 3" in length. Within 6 weeks, all worms will have reached their mature size. Nightcrawlers are an excellent choice for vermicomposting, as they are larger and just as active as traditional Red Wigglers. The European Nightcrawlers will be able to eat their weight in food per day.

If you already have Red Wigglers, not to worry, both can happily co-exist in the same space.

Features & Benefits:

  • Perfect for worm composting systems
  • Worms will grow to 4-5″ in length (up to x5 times bigger then regular red worms)
  • Happy in a large range of temperatures
  • Excellent for soil aeration and fertilization
  • Excellent fish bait

Please note, this product is for live worms only and does not come with a worm composting system. The pictures are used as examples only.

Shipping:

If you are purchasing a worm composting system, we strongly recommend ordering your worms a couple days before receiving or after you've received your composter, so that you can prepare the bedding (the worm's home) before they arrive.

Worms are shipped weekly Monday through Wednesdays only. Depending on the day you place your order, they may ship in 1-5 business days after ordering. The "Standard", free shipping option means your worms will arrive two to four days after the ship date. Worms are very hardy, and can survive up to two weeks without any food! Please note, high temperatures can cause worms to perish in shipping. If you're ordering in the summer months, we strongly recommend choosing the expedited shipping method.

If you'd like to select a faster shipping option, and to benefit from the "live worm guarantee", please select the Expedited option, directly on the product page (not at checkout). If you live in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, or Illinois, your package can be shipped with the standard method, and it should arrive 1-2 days after the ship date, so you don't need to select Expedited 1-Day unless you're ordering during a heat wave.

If you select the Expedited 1-Day shipping, worms are still only shipped Monday-Wednesday. So they would arrive one day after the ship date, though it may take up to 5 business days for them to ship out depending on the purchase date.

If weather conditions are extreme (75 degrees or higher or cold 40 degrees or less) in your area, please consider selecting the Expedited 1-Day option. If your worms arrive dead, they will only be replaced if you had selected the expedited shipping method.

If you cannot be home to accept your worms, we recommend having them held at your local Post Office or delivered to your door. Worms may not survive if left in a mail box or a parcel locker for too long, as they will be exposed to extreme temperatures.

You will receive an email from our team when your order ships with your tracking number. Our team will do our best to update tracking numbers quickly, though sometimes we can be 1 day behind.

If you order worms at the same time as a composter with us, they will ship separately, once the composter shows as delivered. This will allow you enough time to set up the bin and prepare for their arrival. If you'd like us to submit your worm order at the same time as your composter order, please let our customer service team know!

Caring For Your Worms:

Worms are low maintenance and will be happy as long as they are fed, have enough moisture, and are kept between 38° and 78° F. Worms should be protected from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and direct rain. They may lose some weight in shipping because they are shipped in dry bedding so that temperatures don't affect them as much.  Spray water on them and put them in fresh bedding when you receive them and they will gain their weight back quickly (2 - 4 days).

You don't need to feed your worms every day – just add scraps as you have them. Worms can survive up to 2 weeks without any new food. Worms will reproduce according to their space limitations. They will regulate their own population, so you never need to worry about overcrowding a worm composter.

It is very important that you do not overfeed worms in your composter. Worms prefer to eat their food as it begins to decompose, but not if it has become slimy and smelly. You should not add more than 1" of new scraps at once time, and uneaten food should not exceed 2" deep. European Nightcrawlers can eat their weight in food per day!

What to Feed your Worms:

Most fruit and vegetable scraps, pulps from juicer
Cooked food
Tea leaves/bags and coffee grounds
Crushed/ground eggshells
Hair, vacuum cleaner dust, soiled paper, tissue, paper towels, shredded egg cartons
Shredded newspaper, cardboard, sawdust (untreated), wood ash
Lawn clippings in small quantities, weeds, clippings, prunings, dirt and leaves

What to Avoid or Limit:

Limit citrus and acidic fruit skin
Limit bread, pasta and other wheat based products
Avoid hard fruit pits
Avoid spice foods, onions, garlic and leeks
Avoid animal products such as meat, dairy, or fats
Avoid shiny paper
Do not feed rotten food to your worms
