Product Description

2 Anchor Joints included per pack

Anchor joints feature a 11.5 inch stake that can be hammered into the ground to hold the bed in place. They rotate 270 degrees, and firmly hold the composite timbers in place. The ‘slot’ that the timber fits into will also accept standard 2 x 6 sawn lumber (but not Trex plastic lumber, which are too thin). Stacking joints slide into the Anchor Joints to provide additional height.

Small caps, designed to cover the tops of the topmost joints, keep dirt, sand and other grit from getting into the joints.

Each Joint comes with 4 black zinc-plated steel screws to firmly hold the timbers in place. A power drill is the easiest way to put these screws in. However, some customers find the joints hold the timbers sufficiently and say the screws are unnecessary.

Due to this flexibility, you can easily create your own unique raised garden bed with our timbers or lumber from your local lumber yard. Choose from our complete kits, or design your own with just the pieces you need.

Features & Benefits:

  • The Anchor Joints fasten our long-lasting Composite Plastic Timbers or any standard 2”x6” lumber securely.
  • This two-pack comes with 4 screws per joint (8 screws total).
  • The hinge design swivels 270 degrees to create virtually unlimited designs.
  • Anchor Joint stakes extend 11.5” into ground.
  • The serrated stakes prevent shifting of the bed.
  • Made from durable recycled ABS plastic with UV stabilizers.

  • From Margy Campbell at 6/30/10 3:33 PM
    • can the one anchor be stacked onto another to allow a 2-board bed?
    • There are anchor joints and there are stacking joints. The anchor joints are designed to go into the ground, and the stacking joints are designed to slide into the tops of the anchor joints allowing you to stack another bed on top.

If you wanted a 2 board high bed you would need to buy anchor joints and stacking joints.

The stacking joints can be found here: http://eartheasy.com/raised-garden-bed-stacking-joints-2-pack/

    • I like the Garden bed stackers, but I want my raised beds to be 2 ..2x6 high. This item appears to only hold one 2x6.
Is there a product or way to join or stack these so I can get 2 boards stacked ??
      Thank you
    • Yes, you can stack your 2 x 6 boards to any height you want for raised beds using the anchor/stacking joint system.
Use the anchor joints for the bottom row of boards, then use stacking joints to build up additional height. The stacker joints are designed to fit into the anchor joints to provide a smooth attractive corner holding joint.
For a four-sided raised bed, you will need 4 anchor joints (2 - 2-packs). For each additional row of boards (to build taller beds) you will need 4 stacking joints (2 2-packs).

  • From Donnie at 3/17/11 9:01 AM
    • My question is i noticed that there is two types of the raised stakes for garden beds a stacking one with a short stake and a anchor stake with a long stake. My question was if you were going to make a staking unit would you use the long one on bottom and then the staking one on top of it? Also does the the long anchor one accept the stacking one on top of it or do you have to only use the short stacking ones?

      Donnie
    • Hi Donnie,

The longer anchor joints are for the ground level and are all you need if you only want a 6" tall raised bed. But gardeners usually want a taller bed, and so the stacking joint can be added to the anchor joint so you can attach another level of boards.

To build an extra level on a bed, simply pull out the cap on top of the anchor joint and insert the stacking joint. That's all there is to it. You can add a third level, or a fourth level, if you want.

The only difference between the anchor and stacking joints is that the anchor joint has a longer shaft, so it goes deeper into the ground.

  • From Jean at 10/24/11 9:59 PM
    • Is it possible to combine an anchor joint and a stacking joint and use them with a 2x12 board or do I have to use two 2x6 boards?
    • Yes. You can use the 2 x 12 in place of two 2 x 6's with the anchor/stacking joint system.

  • From Jean at 11/4/11 3:33 PM
    • I recently purchased several sets of these anchor joints and planned to use them with standard 2x6 cedar. However, the width of a standard 2x6 board is close to 1 3/4" and the slots of the joints are only 1 1/2" wide. I did not expect to have to cut the boards to fit. Have you recently changed the specifications of your product?
    • We are sorry you are having difficulty with the anchor joint system.

The boards you have purchased are what some lumberyards refer to as full dimension. They are thicker than standard.

The common thickness for "2x" boards is 1.5". Your boards are 1.75". You should be able to return them for standard dimension lumber. Or you can remove the extra .25" using a chisel. If you want to adjust the boards yourself, then first take a small handsaw and make a cut .25" deep an inch back from the board ends. Then chip off the extra .25" from the ends of the board, using the chisel. It is a pretty simple job.

Don't hammer them too hard

By Denise K. on 2/23/11

My husband used a heavy mallet to pound the stake into the ground and broke the stake near the tip. It was hitting a big rock under the grass. It's OK because the broken part is underground, but I wanted to let other people know. Hammer a long nail or rod into the ground first to be sure there are no obstructions.

overtightened screw will crack the plastic

By neal on 12/1/10

Watch out you don't turn the screw in too tight or you'll crack the plastic.
I used my own lumber and had to drill new holes through the plastic tabs that the wood fits into. I think these should come with two holes per tab.
Use pan head screws, not tapered flat head ones.

went together with no problems

By Lonnie on 11/27/10

I built a 12' x 4' x 11" high garden bed using this corner system. The lumber store cut the boards to length for me, using rough (unplaned) utility grade western red cedar. It went together in an afternoon.
The only problem was one board had a large knot right where the screw went in, but the solution was to predrill the hole with a bit slightly smaller than the screw. Next time I'll see that the boards have no knots near the ends.
I'm now expanding our garden using this system.
