Start a Purple Martin colony right in your backyard! These beautiful birds enjoy living close to residential spaces, and will continue to come back year after year to their established house.
Predominantly in Eastern North America, Purple Martins are attracted to houses with multiple apartments to establish colonies. Most martins have remarkable navigational ability, and will often return to the same breeding colony.
This house opens on four sides for easy cleaning and mounts securely on a pole. The design purposely separates each of the individual "apartments", and they all have appropriate ventilation and drainage. The house should be mounted 10 to 20 feet off the ground, and should not be moved once installed, or the previous colony may not come back.
Habitat: Seeks open woodlands, residential areas and agricultural land. See photos for map of their typical range.
All wildlife nests / boxes are correct in every detail for each species and come with species specific literature and mounting instructions.
All of our nest boxes are crafted of custom milled, premium grade, sustainably grown, Eastern white pine, from Robbins Lumber mill in Maine. Robbins Lumber is a leader in responsible forestry management practices. They replant where they harvest, secure the soil from erosion, preserve wildlife habitats and ensure that a sixth generation of the Robbins family can depend on a healthy and productive forest.
