  • From Jill at 11/23/13 1:57 PM
    • How durable is it to use on raised garden beds that will obviously have continual exposure to soil and water?
    • Eco Wood Treatment is developed for applications where wood is exposed to weather. After application, the water beads up and runs off the wood. For raised beds, you can apply to all board surfaces, but it is typical that gardeners only apply the treatment to the exterior surfaces. The treatment will prevent moisture from penetrating the wood more than 1/8". This also applies to ground moisture from contact with the soil.
Eco Wood Treatment is durable enough that the manufacturer recommends only one application for the lifetime of the wood. However, we have added a second coat after about 5 years to a cedar deck and this seems to add increased protection.

    • How do I determine if the wood tint I want to add to the Eco Wood Treatment is also nontoxic? Do you recommend any brands of wood tint? I plan to use the treatment on the wood of my raised bed garden.
    • Any water-based tint will work with Eco Wood Treatment, and these are nontoxic tints. We do not recommend a specific brand, but any local paint store will have one or two choices. This treatment is ideal for raised beds, and if your beds are not yet filled, be sure to treat the inside of the boards as well as the outer surfaces.

    • How long can you store Eco Wood Treatment once it has been mixed with water?
    • After the product has been mixed with water, store the remaining liquid in a sealed jar. To increase the shelf life of the liquid, it will need to be mixed with distilled water. It will then last a long time. Still, it is best to carefully determine the amount of product needed by measuring the size of the product and mixing an exact amount or a little less than is needed. This helps to avoid storing the liquid, as the powder has a longer shelf life.

  • From jane at 11/3/16 8:14 PM
    • what is the treatment made from, what are the ingredients?
    • Eco Wood Treatment is a powder composed of natural substances from minerals. It contains no solvents and leaves no harmful residue in water or soil. It is safe to use on any structure that penetrates into the soil or into the water and contains only 100% organic compounds. The prime ingredient is silica that sets up when wetted, forming a glass-like moisture barrier beneath the wood surface.

    • I have a 7' sign that we wish to put up at a restored native prairie. The lettering has been routed into 2X10 weathered red cedar and looks very good - nice contrast between the lettering and the rest of the lumber. I'd like to use Eco Wood Treatment but am afraid that everything will turn grey and the lettering will no longer be readable even though it's 7" high. Has this product been used in my situation and with what results?
    • Our Eco Wood Treatment will give the cedar a dark or reddish-brown hue, but also a semi-transparent, silver-grey patina. Eco Wood Treatment can also be tinted at any local store if that's what you're after.
