Our granulated corn gluten fertilizer is certified organic and non-GMO. Apply to your lawns in spring and fall as a natural weed and feed.
Corn gluten meal is a natural broadleaf pre-emergent that helps prevent weeds from establishing in early spring. Corn gluten meal is also rich in slow-release nitrogen, which helps promote thicker, greener lawns.
This corn gluten is fortified with 15% organic compost. It is granulated and screened allowing for easy and consistent application.
Total Nitrogen (N): 9%. Water-insoluble nitrogen: 9%. Nutrients for this product are derived from Non-GMO Corn Gluten Meal, fortified with 15% organic compost* for lawn and garden.
*The compost helps bind the corn gluten meal, so there is less fine powdery material. This keeps the corn gluten spread evenly during application. The compost also gives this corn gluten a darker brown color compared to standard corn gluten.
For pre-emergent weed control, apply corn gluten before germination of weed seeds. Apply to established lawns and landscape areas in the early spring before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees F. Corn Gluten should not be applied to newly seeded areas.
A short drying period following germination helps kill the weeds before they form roots. If it does not rain for 5 days after application, water with approximately 1/4 inch water and then allow the soil to dry for a period following germination. For improved weed prevention apply at a rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
Apply 6 pounds per 1,000 square feet with a broadcast spreader. Provides 0.54 lb. of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. Each 30 pound bag covers up to 5,000 square feet.
For commercial applications, apply 11 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Apply up to 20 lbs per 1,000 square feet for enhanced weed prevention.
Spreader settings are listed on the bag for many common broadcast spreaders and drop spreaders, including models from Scotts, Earthway and AgriFab.
As a weed suppressant, corn gluten acts as a natural "pre-emergent" - it inhibits seed germination by drying out a seed as soon as it begins to sprout. These qualities make corn gluten an ideal 'weed n feed' product.
To take advantage of its weed-prevention properties, corn gluten must be applied to lawns before weed seeds germinate. Apply in early spring before the weeds begin to sprout, as a general rule, around the time when forsythia, daffodils and early spring bulbs are blooming. Apply again to lawns in the fall. Corn gluten is also useful when transplanting vegetables and shrubs. Apply immediately after transplanting to prevent weeds from sprouting through the enriched soil and competing with your transplants.
