Details
The Urban Compost Tumbler 9 (UCT9) simplifies and speeds up the process of making compost. In as little as 13 days you can turn your discarded kitchen scraps into healthy compost for your garden. The tumbler works this well due to it’s innovative design: a core of air flows through the interior of the composter, aiding digestion. The entire compost drum is suspended by a horizontal axle that enables it to be easily 'tumbled' by hand. This tumbling agitates the compost and helps with oxygen flow, thus speeding up the composting process.

Optional Compost Tea Catcher - $29.00
Made for the UCT9, this perfect little 6-quart tea catcher captures the highly prized, nutrient rich, organic liquid derived from compost materials known as Compost Tea. Compost tea is used to feed and restore plants, enhance soil microflora, and can be sprayed onto the foliage to control foliar diseases. It can be used on a variety of plants including many exotic varieties.
If you hear the sound of liquid inside as you spin the UCT9, simply connect this little tea catcher to the bottom and turn the shut-off valve (on the bottom of the composter) and the ‘tea’ will flow down the included 2’ hose into the tea catcher. You can dilute this tea down and spray it directly on plants to reduce disease, or pour it on the ground near the plants roots.

works for me

very solid unit.
with my old composter the legs splayed as the composter got fuller. this one is much stronger design.
comments about it being heavy to spin when full are right. we stop adding when 2/3 full, and it's ok to spin.

Too hard to turn
By on 11/30/10
This composter is too hard to turn when even more than half full. To empty it we have to put a block under the back end to hold it. It may compost well and last a long time but it's too heavy for me.

heavy, lid sometimes hard to screw on
By on 11/28/10
I am buying a second cheaper composter to use as a holding bin while the UCT9 composter finished each batch. This is necessary with any single drum type of composter.
Our UCT9 has held up well through two seasons. It is very sturdy. We are pleased with the composter but have two things to report. The first is that it is heavy when empty, which is why it's so sturdy. But when full it is very heavy to spin. I get my son to spin it when it's over half full.
The other comment is theat the lid can be hard to screw on sometimes. We've figured this is due to a slight distortion the drum takes in hot sun when it is heavy with compost. I notice that it's not a problem in the morning when it's still cool. If it's hard to get on I just leave it set on top, then screw it on when it's cooler.
I am satisfied with my composter overall.

very sturdy, but takes two hands to open
By on 11/24/10
I love my new composter, it is very sturdy and holds a lot. We are looking differently at our yard waste and seeing if we can compost it.. We even take the leaves from a small park nearby.
The only thing that I liked better about my old composter was that you could open the door to it with one hand, using the other to empty the kitchen scraps bucket, which I do almost every day. Now this new composter has a big lid, which is good in some ways, but it takes two hands to open it. So I have to put the bucket down and it gets wet on the bottom and I have to dry it off before setting it down in the kitchen. This is my only criticism. What I should also say is that now we are composting more because this is so much better than our old one which was open on the bottom and was impossible to turn the compost.

very heavy duty construction
By on 11/17/10
We looked at a lot of composters and bought this even though it was more expensive. We thought it looked more heavily constructed. And is it ever! The walls are thick and the legs are solid. The legs won't ever rust. I don't know why they use metal stands on so many composters, won't they rust?
Our composter is almost full and boy is it heavy. I can spin it but with some effort.
It would be nice if you could roll this to where you want to dump the compost but this design does not allow it. But the lid opening is quite large so it should be easy to tilt this over the wheelbarrow.
This is a very heavy duty composter which looks like it will last forever. I would recommend this.
