good design, port can stick
By on 11/30/10
I chose this composter because of the horizontal orientation of the drum. Simple physics dictates this is easier to turn as the mass is closer to the central axis. I was worried that the legs were too thin but they're not. The sliding port doesn't always slide easily if debris gets in the track or if it's freezing. I've taken to tapping it with a block but need to be careful not to chip it whem its frozen. Otherwise, it's good.

smart design

Compost tumblers be hard to spin when full. This is my second composter and it is miles improved over my other one, which I still use. Here is why: the deep slots give you good purchase to grip it so it is easier to spin. Also these deep slots are angled, sloping to the outside edges, this is a clever design because it lets the water from rain run off instead of sitting in the slot. Who wants to stick their hands into a wet puddle to spin their composter? And when you look inside you can see the deep slots serve as equally deep paddles which make the compost mix up when turning. (If the slots weren't deep, then the compost just sloshes from side to side and doens't actually get mixed.)
