The Urban Compost Tumbler simplifies and speeds up the process of making compost. In as little as 13 days you can turn your discarded kitchen scraps into healthy compost for your garden. The tumbler works this well due to it’s innovative design: a core of air flows through the interior of the composter, aiding digestion. The entire compost drum is suspended by a horizontal axle that enables it to be easily 'tumbled' by hand. This tumbling agitates the compost and helps with oxygen flow, thus speeding up the composting process.

    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes  No
  • From Dorothy at 9/17/13 10:16 AM
    • Can you tell me how to use this product - layering of leaves, etc and how do I get the composed material out. I'm using one our son has left with us and he didn't give any instructions.
    • For a complete guide to composting, please see our page:

      For your specific questions:

      1. Leaves are a great addition to your compost, but they should be added in layers, mixed with other items you are adding or simply mixed with some soil. If you add the leaves too thickly they will mat together and slow down the composting process.

      2. To remove the finished compost, simply open the lid and tip the composter over a wheelbarrow or bucket. There may be some unfinished bits among the finished compost, but don't mind. They will break down in the garden or wherever you spread the compost. To avoid having any unfinished bits, stop adding new materials when your composter is about 3/4 full and wait a week or two before emptying the compost. Be sure to spin your composter after you add new materials.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes  No
  • From Lisa Curtis at 3/20/16 8:21 AM
    • How often do you turn?
    • Each time you put new materials into the composter, give it a turn or two. It doesn't have to be spun too often. We probably turn our composter once per day, since every morning we dump the compost keeper.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes  No
  • From New Composter at 1/31/17 7:50 PM
    • I've been doing a lot of research on which composter to buy and the tumbler seems the best for us. Just one question though, along the lines of Lisa's question above, what is the least amount that you should turn the composter? We travel often for work and won't be around to tumble it every day.
    • If you're frequently away from home and unable to tumble your composter almost every day, it will not stop the process. You can get away with 2-3 times a week without significantly slowing down the process.
