This genuine western red cedar wood raised planter is 2' x 3', and is 36" high.
This sturdy cedar raised planter is great for people who like to garden on the patio or deck, for apartment dwellers with limited space, and for individuals gardening from a wheelchair or stool. It also prevents animals from digging and ruining your vegetables or flowers.
The bottom is made of two layers of crossed cedar slats which permit excess water to pass through while holding the soil in place. The slats are covered by a heavy-duty, thick fabric landscape cloth which is semipermeable. This allows excess moisture to drain. The interior planting depth is 8", which is sufficient for most common vegetables.

These planters are recommended for use on decks and patios. We do not recommend that these be placed on lawns or ground that can become uneven. Because these planters are supported by tall legs, it is important that they are level to ensure their structural integrity.
We also recommend only using light weight potting soil, and planting vegetables that are not very heavy. (Potatoes and squash are not recommended, for example).

- What is the benefit of buying the heavy duty mesh floor? I understand the planters are made with a wood bottom. Does the mesh floor make the wood floor stronger? Is the mesh floor recommended to individuals purchasing the raised planters?
- The mesh bottom permits excess water to drain. Wood bottomed-planters do not have this facility, and plants which cannot drain adequately will have root rot and show poor growth. The mesh bottom in this planter is not an option, it is an integral part of the design, and the heavy-duty quality of this mesh is one of the reasons we like this planter.
Beneath the mesh layer there is a double layer of cedar slats, and these provide the strength to hold the volume of soil which can be heavy when wet. These beds are so strong that I can stand in them (I weigh 180 lbs.).

- The Rectangular Cedar Raised Garden Planter with Bottom Shelf can be assembled using a screwdriver. No power tools are needed. I put several of these together and it took about 15 minutes for each planter.
One of my planters had a piece on the inside (a support piece for the base slats) slightly out of place. I used a hammer to pull it out, and then hammer it back in an inch higher. It's not likely that you will need to do this, but I wanted to let you know my expeience in assembling these planters. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- In reviewing in the overview, it does not mention this particular model having a mesh bottom, as some of the other models. Maybe I'm missing it; however, what I've read so far is "The bottom is made of cedar slats which permit excess water to pass through while holding the soil in place." Again, no mention of the mesh. I'm interested in ordering two of these; however, I need confirmation that the mesh is in fact, included. Please advise where I can find this in writing on this specific product, Item 24BS. Thanks!
- The Rectangular Cedar Raised Garden Planter with Bottom Shelf does come with the 2-ply liner which sits on top of the slats. The liner is comprised of a heavy-duty plastic mesh that is bonded to a thick felt-like absorbant layer. This is a very high quality mesh which is durable, yet permeable so it allows excess moisture to drain through.
Thank you for pointing out that this isn't clear in our product description. I will go in a fix that!

- Hello, I am sorry if I am missing this somewhere in the description, but can you tell me if this item (24BS) is finished with any kind of sealer etc? I am hoping not, but your description does not say. Thanks for letting me know.
- The Rectangular Cedar Raised Garden Planter with Bottom Shelf is made of unfinsihed Western Red Cedar. The cedar is high grade (few knots, if any) and planed smooth. There are no sealers or wood treatments of any kind used on this planter.
The color of the planter is the natural red-brown cedar. Over time this color will turn silver-grey. If you want to retain the original red-brown color, you will need to apply a finish. In this case, we recommend a natural tung oil finish, two coats. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No
