Optional Bottom Shelf:
Planters can be equipped with an optional shelf to store garden tools and amendments. The shelf option is only available for planters 34 inches tall and 11 inches deep. Each planter comes with a heavy duty liner to catch water.
Planters with 11 inches planting depth are popular and versatile enough to grow most vegetables, herbs and flowers. Planters 16.5 inches deep provide more soil for deep rooted plants, such as tomatoes.
Our cedar raised garden planters are 34 inches tall, allowing you to comfortably stand and garden at waist height. Wheelchair users can access the garden while positioned sideways to the planter.
These planters are made from kiln-dried Oregon Cedar—the strongest of all cedars. It is a fragrant, light-colored wood with even texture and strong natural oils to protect against moisture and fungal decay.
To enhance the cedar's natural rot resistance, it's treated with a non-toxic silica-based wood stabilizer, which hardens the wood and further extends its lifespan.
Easy to assemble - simply stack the boards, insert corner pins, and attach trim, legs and bottom using included screws. Once assembled we recommend adding an inch of gravel to the bottom of the planter before adding potting soil.
Planters can be set up on a patio, balcony, courtyard, rooftop, or walkway. Since the planter is supported by tall legs it must be placed on a level surface.

Questions about the Natural Cedar Raised Garden Planter
- From Kristy at 5/17/14 1:53 PM
- Do you line the planter box with some sort of material so the soil doesn't seep out?
- The Natural Cedar Raised Garden Planters have snugly slatted bottoms which do not require lining. Excess moisture will be absorbed by the slatted wood. Soil will not seep out.

- From Greg at 3/15/15 5:05 AM
- Does the exterior need to be treated in some way to maintain its original color?
- Cedar naturally changes to a silver-grey color after a few years of being exposed to the sun. This discoloration does not affect the longevity of the wood.
Some people prefer to treat the wood with EcoWood Treatment, which will cause water to bead up and run off the wood, thereby active as a preservative. This is an effective treatment but it also makes the wood change to grey in color.
To retain the red-brown cedar color, you can apply a coat of Tung Oil Finish (not pure tung oil) and this will brighten the colors (as if the wood were wet) and help retain them for years. If you use this method, we recommend only treating the outside of the beds, and not treating any surface where the soil would come into contact.
