Details

Made in the USA from Oregon-grown cedar, a durable and naturally rot-resistant wood, these raised beds are sturdy and easy to assemble. Wooden boards are treated with a non-toxic wood sealant, which extends the natural lifespan of the wood.

Raised bed corners are half-lapped, with rods going down through the assembly, which keeps the corners from working loose over time. It's easy to stack the boards to make raised beds in many different heights.

Features & Benefits:

  • Long-lasting raised garden beds made from kiln-dried Oregon Cedar

Dimensions:

All boards are standard surfaced 2x6 with actual dimensions of 1.5"x 5.5", and two or more boards stacked on top of each other give the raised beds their height of 11".

Innovative Design:

Made in the USA

These beds are made from kiln-dried Oregon Cedar, a rot-resistant wood that can be painted or stained, or left unfinished to gray naturally. The simple design of these kits allow wood to shrink and swell, for better strength and durability in wet/dry conditions. Hardware like screws and nails eventually loosen as wood ages. Our beds assemble with rust-free metal pins set securely through the ends of each board. So after years of exposure the planter won't fall apart, and yet can be disassembled by hand if needed.

Rot-resistant Cedar:

Oregon Cedar is as strong as Douglas Fir and more rot-resistant than Redwood. It's a fragrant, light-colored wood with even texture and strong natural oils to protect against moisture and microorganisms. To enhance cedar's natural rot resistance, the boards are treated with a non-toxic mineral-based wood stabilizer, which hardens the wood and further extends its lifespan. This cedar's superior strength and durability means these raised beds last many times longer than most lumber found in stores.

Assembly:

Just level ground, stack boards and insert corner pins to create a long-lasting garden bed for your flowers and vegetables. No tools necessary. Assembly takes just minutes. Raised beds do not need to be finished. You can stain the outside of the boards if you want them to blend in with your patio or fencing design.

Each height comes with pins that are the same height as the bed, so you can put the bed on hard ground or a patio if needed, and the tops of the pins will be flush with the top of the bed.

Easily build a cloche over these raised gardens. You can leave the corner pins slightly protruding and then slide some thin pvc pipe over them, bending the pipe in a hoop to the other side of the bed. Then drape clear plastic over the pipe and affix with zip-ties. Now your garden is greenhouse ready!

  • From George at 7/16/10 6:18 AM
    • The description for the two foot wide beds does not specifically state they are stackable above eleven inches. Can they be stacked up to 22 inches high? If so, I assume the right sized pins come with the kits. And, If stacked up to 22 inches high do they need the support brackets in the center?
    • Our Natural Cedar Raised Garden Beds, including the 2' width models, can be stacked as high as 33". And yes, the pins will be longer to accommodate the bed height you select.

If the length you want is 8' or longer, then your bed will come with aluminum (will not rust) cross-span braces which prevent the longer beds from bowing under the weight of the soil.

  • From Susan at 4/16/11 11:29 AM
    • If I order a 2'x6' bed , is the board 6' long? The diagrams indicate the boards are cut different lengths, but the video indicates that two four foot boards are required for an 8' length.
    • Yes. The 6' long bed uses full 6' boards. The longer beds, like the 8' model, use 4' boards pinned together mid-span. This gives added strength to prevent bowing in the longer span.

  • From Jen at 5/4/12 3:34 PM
    • Can these be left outdoors over the winter? I live in New Hampshire so we usually get a good amount of snow and below freezing temps at times. Thanks!
    • Yes. The natural cedar raised beds are intended for permanent outdoor use. The wood will withstand freezing and thawing.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes  No
  • From Meredith at 7/1/13 3:50 PM
    • What sort of chemicals comprise the sealant on these beds? Do you offer any beds which have not been sealed?
    • No chemicals are used to seal these beds. Microscopic glass crystals bond with wood fibers, creating a moisture barrier that protects the boards from rot. There is no coating on the surface to flake or chip, and nothing leaches into the soil. There are no UV protectors so the cedar will fade naturally to silver-gray. If you want to stain or paint the wood, we recommend applying it to the outside of the planter only, as some products can off-gas or leach toxins into soil.

comes apart easy too

By Ty on 11/15/10

the thing you should tell your customers is that these beds are easy to take apart.
We moved recently and took our two raised beds apart. They looked good on the inside, no rot, after about 18 months in place. Also, the way these beds are designed, the boards are only 4' long, so the pieces fit into my friend's pickup truck easily.

I like the way the corners are held together

By Adria H. on 11/24/10

I think is the best designed garden bed out there. The corners are so simple but can't work apart because of the thru pins. I rammed into the corner of one of the beds with a full wheelbarrow of dirt (the bed was still empty) and the whole bed shifted but the corner was not affected at all. Now my two beds are topped up with soil and they look lovely. I would recommend this product to others.

Rots after 2 years

By Jean on 3/16/14

It worked great until now. We've had the unit for 2 years. 2 of the pieces of wood completely rotted away. Very disappointing

Ed. Note: Jean, please call or email us for a free replacement. This is unusual and should not have happened.
