The Jora JK125 Composter lets you make perfect compost from your household waste quickly and easily. It is a 'continuous-use' dual chamber composter, so you can start a new batch in one compartment while the first batch ages. Ideal for rapid composting of kitchen scraps and light garden waste. The Jora JK125 is suitable for smaller households with 1 to 4 people.

NOTE: The Jora JK125 comes with the longer legs as pictured in the first three images (left). The other three images and the videos below show the older model with shorter legs. All JK125's now come with the longer legs.

Features & Benefits:

  • 'Continuous-use' dual chamber composter
  • Durable, rust-resistant galvanized steel construction
  • Holds 4.5 cubic feet (33 gallons) of compost
  • Operating capacity: 2 to 4 gallons per week
  • Easy to use - rotates easily for maximum aeration
  • Insulated - great for cool climates and all-weather composting
  • Fully-enclosed and pest resistant
  • Elevated rodent proof design
  • Reduces odors

Dual Chambers

The JK125 is divided into two compartments, so one side can be filled while the other side's compost matures. Once the compartment being filled can take no more, the mature compost can be emptied from the other compartment, and the cycle begins again.

Composting generates heat and the different microorganisms start working at different temperatures. The HDPE insulation in the JK125 composter allows the temperature to rise to 150° F for faster, more efficient processing of your organic waste. At these temperatures fresh waste starts to break down before it has a chance to rot and attract vermin and flies. With its superior insulation, the Jora composter will continue working through winter, long after other composters have stopped completely.

  • Easy to rotate - simply turn by hand after adding waste
  • Fresh waste is brought into direct contact with decaying waste
  • Adds air to the mixture, providing oxygen vital for microbial activity

What can be composted?

  • Raw and cooked food scraps e.g. vegetables, fruit, eggshells, meat, fish, bread
  • Garden waste e.g. flower cuttings, leaves, weeds, grass clippings
  • Shredded paper and cardboard e.g. egg cartons
  • Light pet waste e.g. rabbit or hamster bedding

The JK125 Composter will accept organic household waste or anything biodegradable. After adding waste, it will take about 6 to 8 weeks for each chamber to produce compost. Once both chambers are in operation you should be emptying one chamber every 3 to 4 weeks.

Rodent Proof:

The Jora JK125 Composter is sited off the ground so there is no possibility of rodents or other pests gaining access to the waste in the composter.

  • Exterior: galvanized steel panels, powder coated to last for years. The steel panels will withstand extreme freezing without developing cracks, and will hold up well to prolonged sun exposure without any deterioration of the finish.
  • Insulation: 2.16" HDPE polyethylene - a stable, non-toxic plastic
  • Galvanized steel stand
  • Rust-proof stainless steel hardware

    • We live in CT-- would we be able to compost year-round with a Jora composter? Are there others you sell that we could use in winter?

And if we go with a Jora, which size? We are a household of three vegetarians, with a 20x30 ft flower garden. But of course, the garden is only producing for about half the year!
    • Yes, you can compost through winter in CT. However, the process will take longer than in summer, and you'll need to add carbon elements to balance all the veggie clippings you'll have available for composting. If you let up on the carbon during winter, the compost will be too moist for active composting. So be sure to save some dry carbon sources from autumn, such as leaves from the numerous deciduous trees in CT. Then add them as you go during the winter months.
Since you have a garden bed you'll have lots of garden debris to add in the fall. With three people and a 20 x 30 garden plot, you'll be happier with the JK270, at 9.5 cu ft. Once you start producing compost, you always seem to need more.

    • In the picture of the product, frame does not look very sturdy. Will it support the full weight of the composter when it reaches two thirds or three quarters filled? How will it hold up while trying to spin the composter when it is that full?
    • The frame for the JK125 is very sturdy, due in part to the strut located near the base as well as the cross-bracing. We've used this composter for years - you can load it full to the top and the frame still feels very secure, it does not move or sway when the drum is turned. The drum is very easy to spin even when full, which is not the case with all tumbler models. The frame is also made with stainless steel components. Our composter sits on the dirt all year, with no sign of rust.

    • I live in New Mexico, should I put the joraform in the sun or partial sun? I was going to put it out in the back by my garden, but it's full sun all day long. Closer to the house it would have a little shade, it that's what it needs.
      Thank you for your time.
    • Closer to the house is a good location because you'll be making frequent trips. If you decide to place the Jora in full sun, you may need to give it extra water, since there will be evaporation through the aeration holes. It's going to process quickly in that heat, so you want to turn it regularly and cycle the batch through more quickly. You're going to have a lot of compost!

    • We are considering this for a small community garden, but I am wondering if there is the possibility of locking the doors shut with a pad lock?

    • Yes, the latches are designed to accept a padlock. You would need two padlocks, one for each bin latch.

  • From Courtney at 7/3/14 8:08 AM
    • I want to compost at my second residence but we are only here during summers & holidays. I'm concerned that by not being here to tumble it won't be as effective. Can the Jora still be used if it's not regularly tumbled? And can compost sit in it for longer than 6-8 weeks?
    • Yes, the composting process will continue even if the Jora is not tumbled, it will just take longer. And you can certainly let it sit for a month or two without any problem. When you get back to your place you'll have finished compost waiting to be applied to your garden.

  • From Jenni at 7/15/14 3:56 PM
    • I am looking to purchase a Jora compost tumbler, but am not sure which size. There are two adults and a baby in our family, our house is on a .18 acre lot, and have a 4 x 8 raised bed garden. Will the 4.5 cu. ft. be enough, or would you recommend the 9 cu. ft. model?
    • The JK125 should be sufficient for your family's needs. Should you find that you need more composting space during certain times of the year, such as autumn when there are fall leaves and garden remnants from the harvest, you can decant the nearly finished compost into a garbage can or bucket, where it will finish off, to make room for the new compost batch. Another option is to save the fall leaves and garden scraps in a garbage can or sack, then add periodically to your composter through fall and into winter. This is useful since carbon components, like dried leaves, are needed in winter months to help balance the compost.
