There’s no need for expensive disposable filters that need replacement every couple months – Black Berkey purification elements are re-cleanable during their 3000 gallon lifetime. When the flow rate decreases, simply brush the Black Berkey elements with a ScotchBrite pad under running water, reinstall, and your system is ready again to purify water.
Black Berkey purification elements remove or reduce the following:
- Pathogenic Bacteria and Cysts (E. Coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Raotella Terrigena) – reduced to > 99.999%
- Viruses - reduced to > 99.9999%
- Parasites – reduced to > 99.9999%
- Harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides
- Chlorine – removed to below detectable limits
- Detergents
- Organic solvents
- THMs (Trihalomethanes – Bromodichloromethane, Bromoform, Chloroform, Dibromochloromethane) – removed to below dectable limits
- MTBEs (Methyl tert-butyl ether) – removed to below dectable limits
- Other VOCs – removed to below detectable limits
- MBAS (Methylene Blue Active Substances)
- Cloudiness, silt, and sediment
- Radiologicals (Radon 222) – removed to below dectable limits
- Nitrates and Nitrites – reduced to > 95%
- Selenium and Thallium – reduced to > 95%
