    • Frequently Asked Questions

      • Is the Kodiak expandable?

Yes, you can add external batteries via the external battery bank posts. The kodiak has a charge control system that can manage the internal lithium battery and an external marine deep cycle battery bank. You can also add up to 270 Watts of solar panels.

Can I use the Kodiak while it is charging?

Yes! The Kodiak Generator is capable of outputting power while charging providing Un-interruptible Power Supply (UPS).

What can I run on the Kodiak and for how long?

You can run anything that you can plug into the wall that draws less than than 1100 Watts or 10 Amps at 110 VAC. Examples include: a refrigerator, freezer, TV, stereo, lights, microwave, blender, cell phones, computer, tablet, RV, trailer, tiny home, cabin, and so much more. Adding solar panels will extend your run times. The right sized solar panel system and external battery bank attached to your Kodiak could give you an unrestricted run time experience.

How long will the battery hold its charge?

About 3 months. It is recommended to leave it plugged into a wall outlet for long term storage. Otherwise, you can recharge every 3 months

What Type of AC inverter is built into the Kodiak>

1,500 Watt Pure Sine Wave. Max output of 3,000 Watts.

What do the meters on the Kodiak measure?

The Kodiak has 2 meters. The colorful dot meter beneath the power button tells you how much charge remains on the battery. Blue means fully charged; red means almost out of power. The LCD meter to the left of the power button tells you how much current (in Amps) you are using (upper left reading), what the system voltage is at that moment (upper right reading), and how much power (in Watts) you are using (lower right reading), all in real time. The reading in the lower left corner displays accumulated data on your power use, which rotates through accumulated, Watts, Power, Current and the lowest Voltage while running.

What can the Kodiak not charge?

The Kodiak only discharges 110 VAC. Appliances like an electric stove, air conditioner, furnace, hot water tank, electric heater, etc use 220 VAC. These electric appliances require much more power than the Kodiak is designed to deliver. On the other hand, gas appliances require much less power, because heat is generated by burning the gas. You only need electricity to turn on the timers, igniters, safeties and interlocks in the appliance so that the gas can turn on. Once the gas can turn on, you can use the appliance. In a normal power outage, gas is still available as long as you can deliver power to the specific appliance. Most gas appliances use 110 VAC. For example, if you have a gas stove less than 10 years old, during a power outage, all you have to do is plug the stove into the Kodiak to turn on the electronics, timers and readouts. Now you can use your stove. Instead of a 240V receptacle, a gas range/oven plugs into a conventional 120 VAC outlet, just like any other 120 VAC appliance. The most important purpose of the electricity is to power a piezoelectric ignition system, which eliminates the need for a standing pilot, which wastes gas. The power also operates the light, timer and, if the unit has one, the auxiliary power receptacle.

What is the expected lifespan of the Kodiak battery and is it replaceable?

The expected lifespan is 2,000 cycles or 10 years. The lithium battery is not replaceable, any battery service must be rendered by the manufacturer.
