The slatted bottom prevents dirt from falling out, but allows excess water to drain, and the heavy-duty stainless-steel casters allow you to roll the planter to different areas of your deck if needed.
Comes with pre-drilled holes in the overlapping corners. Just slide the included aluminum rods (4) down through these holes to lock the corners in place – it only takes a few minutes to assemble the entire planter!

- Rolls best on concrete or smooth surfaces. When full of dirt, it's too heavy to roll on lawns. If your deck is made of wood, the casters may mark the wood as the planter is rolled.

- Do the casters lock to prevent the box from rolling away on a sloped ground?
- The Rolling Balcony Planter comes with heavy-duty non-marking casters. The casters are not the locking style. On sloping ground, the casters can be turned against the slope (sideways) to reduce the chance of movement.
With container planters, it is advisable to set the container on level ground. This insures that the water reaches all the soil evenly as it migrates downwards. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- I am planning to grow tomatoes and cucumbers this summer. I am looking at this and also the rolling tomato tower. Given you said you could only 1-2 tomato plants here, would the towers be better for tomatoes given the larger depth?
- Well, either planter will do the job. But the tomato tower has the added depth to accommodate deeper rooting. If you want to grow larger varieties, such as full size dinner plate tomatoes, then I would recommend the tomato tower. Also the deeper soil will provide deeper anchoring for a stake.

- Would the balcony planter have enough room to accommodate 3 tomato plants? Looking at balcony planter for tomatoes and cedar planter with bottom shelf for salad veggies, garlic, herbs. Would you recommend other product choices over these for my planting needs?
- The balcony planter would accommodate two standard size tomato plants. Or you could plant just one tomato and you will likely end up with about the same amount of yield. You will want to use a tomato cage or use stakes to support the plants.
The cedar planter with bottom shelf will work fine as a salad garden. The allowance for soil depth is adequate. We like this planter because the elevated height makes it easier to garden. Nikki - Sure. You can choose to not insert the rollers (casters) into the planter bottom. We recommend you raise the planter a small bit off the ground to facilitate drainage. This can be done by blocking it up with a few thin pieces of slats, or any thin material you have available. A clearance of 1/8" should be adequate.
