- Lower tray with drain sprout in center
- Dimensions: 21.5 x 13.5 x 13
Our Worm Farm comprises one sturdy polypropylene box and one tray, which are nested inside each other. The upper box has a perforated floor and a lid, and the lower tray is fitted with a drain sprout in the bottom center. By having the worms in the top portion of the bin (kitchen scraps/organic waste is placed) the waste (liquid tea) filters through the perforated holes into the bottom tray that can be combined with water for use as an organic fertilizer rich in nutrients. As the worms actually eat the bacteria in the decomposed food there is no odor to worry about, simply add your scraps and see the results!
First of all, line the base of the top box with two or three layers of dampened newspaper. Add some partially rotted compost or potting mix, to form a layer about 1-2 inches deep. Add your purchased worms* and cover with a piece of dampened carpet, burlap or light resistant plastic (such as a garbage bag) cut to size. Place the scraps underneath this cover. Note that the worms eat the decomposed parts of the scraps so by placing them in a separate bin for a few days will accelerate the process.
The Worm Farm can also be used as the Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter. The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter is a worm farm which harnesses the power of nature to recycle dog droppings into worm castings and liquid manure (compost tea). The tea, often referred to by gardeners as ‘liquid gold’, is highly concentrated and can be mixed one part tea to four parts water. A worm farm that disposes of dog-droppings without the need for chemicals. Harness the power of nature and put it back into your garden! (not for use with cat droppings)
Worms are used to convert the pet poo into worm castings as an incredibly nutrient-rich soil amendment. Because the worms eat the bacteria, there is no odor. The unit is easy to set up and operate and takes little space. No chemicals are used, and the Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter comes with comprehensive instructions regarding set-up and use.
The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter will handle, on average, the droppings of two medium dogs. However, this will vary with age, diet, exercise and breed of dog. (Think Chihuahua vs. St Bernard). The greater the amount of droppings recycled through the Pet Poo Converter, the quicker the level of castings will build up. The castings can then be easily harvested, as per the instructions, and used around the flower garden or in potting mixes.
*All of these topics and more are explained in detail in a foldout instruction sheet included with the bin.

- Ok, stupid ?....can the pet dropping 'liquid gold' be used on a vegetable garden, or just flowers, etc?? Thank you.
- The pet dropping 'tea' from the Worm Farm Composter is fine for potted plants, planters and shrubs. We do not recommend using this fertilizer for vegetable gardens.
