A beautiful and natural self contained garden bed or planter in which to grow organic vegetables or flowers on patios, balconies and restricted spaces. This garden planter is easy to tend while standing or sitting.
Features: • top is a large planter box • includes a bottom shelf for storage • made of natural, unstained weather-resistant western red cedar • included is a unique liner that holds the soil in, but lets the water drain out • restricts ground pests such as rabbits and moles Optional potting tray (shown in picture) for $29 (select on left). These beds are made by disabled and mentally challenged people in Illinois as part of a community program to integrate them into the workforce. Location: Carefully choose a permanent site for your garden before filling the assembled container garden with soil. Make sure your garden is placed where it will recieve full sun for at least six hours if the selected plants require full sun. We do not recommend moving the container garden once it is filled. Soil: Ordinary garden soil is too heavy for container gardening and will pack down. A soil mixture should allow you to reach the bottom with your hands or hand tools. We recommend a light pre-mixed soil. Your local garden center or nursery can advise you on the best mixture for the type of plants you plan to grow. Be certain to provide the width, length, and depth of your garden so the garden center can advise you on the amount of soil mix you need to purchase. Some soil mixes need to be replaced each year while others may cost a little more but will last for several years. Watering: Your raised container garden gets air circulation from both the top and bottom, which promotes accelerated growth, but it also dries the soil out faster than in-ground planting. Water until the water drips through the bottom liner. When it stops dripping, water again. Light soil mixes take longer to absorb moisture, so the second watering assures even and complete absorption of moisture. Feeding: Select a fertilizer that meets the requirements of the plants you are growing. Follow the directions on the container. Keep in mind that frequent watering flushes
The bottom is made of cedar slats covered with a water-permeable liner which holds the soil in place. Planter box dimensions are 35 1/2" high by 25" wide by 73 3/8" long. The interior planting depth is 8". Assembly time: 1 hour.
