Three Reusable Non-toxic Apple-Style Traps

Apple Maggot is a type of fruit fly that attacks apples, blueberries, hawthorn, plums, pears and cherries. They cause extensive fruit damage that renders fruit useless. The fly is smaller than a housefly and appears throughout the summer. Most people don't even notice them.

Most fruits are attacked by flies that lay their eggs during late spring to early summer. Traps should be placed before apple fruiting, but can be placed at any time through the year. Leave traps out until harvest.

The SpringStar "Oak Stump Farms" Apple Maggot trap and lure set have proven effective at reducing apple maggot damage. Flies are attracted by the lures and come to a sticky demise on the goo-covered apple sphere.

Although the trap replicates an apple, the pheromone scent will attract flies even when used in berry crops, or in trees with different fruits.

The reusable trap includes our one-season, controlled-release lure system. Place traps in trees and leave out until harvest time.

Hang one trap for approximately every 100 apples in your tree. That's about five traps for an average standard tree. Check traps periodically. Traps become ineffective when they are covered with insects and/or debris. Clean off the spheres and reapply the glue as needed.

The SpringStar Apple Maggot kit includes:

  • Three traps
  • Three hooks
  • Three lures
  • A6 oz. tube of spreadable glue

Made in the USA.

  • From Katherine at 8/24/10 5:30 PM
    • If I buy the kit with 3 spheres, lures and tube of glue, and then some replacement lures for the following season, I'm assuming I will run out of glue, perhaps even before the end of the first season. Do you sell the replacement tubes of glue separately? If so, what is the price?
I live in Thunder Bay, ON. What would the shipping costs be? (Locally I have to pay $24.99 for the kit which you sell for $9.95(!))
    • The additional lures do not come with the glue - there is a lot of glue in the tube, more than enough for 6 traps. Also, you can use any sticky trap glue which is commonly available at any hardware or lawn & garden store.

The shipping cost to Canada is usually higher than $15 to start with, so it may be more cost effective for you to purchase it locally.

    • My neighbor and I have several varieties of apple trees, here in Albuquerque, NM. The majority of our apples have worms. How do I know whether they have been damaged by coddling moths or apple maggot flies?
    • Codling moth damage can be confused with apple maggot damage. The difference is codling moth feeds in the core and the apple maggot tunnels throughout the flesh of the fruit.
