Glacial rock dust is a natural mineral product mined from deposits of glacial moraine which contain a variety of crushed rocks formed through thousands of years of glacial action. Glacial rock dust is harvested from these deposits because it contains a broad spectrum of trace minerals, which are essential to the soil food web, but often depleted in soil due to erosion, leaching and unsustainable farming practices. Glacial rock dust can help restore these mineral imbalances to increase soil vitality and produce healthier plants.
Features & Benefits:
- Environmentally friendly
- Safe, non-toxic soil long-term amendment
- Provides a source of calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and micronutrients
- Increases phosphorous availability to plants
- Enhances root fertility and improves soil structure
- Will not "burn" plants or seedlings
How to Use Glacial Rock Dust:
Glacial rock dust provides silicate minerals in an accessible form for soil microbes to create healthy soil. It can improve soil structure, moisture retention, nutrient availability, bacterial action, and also raise pH in acidic soils. Use glacial rock dust for long-term soil building to improve the root systems of your trees, lawn, vegetable gardens, and flowerbeds.
Glacial rock dust should be applied during the spring once per year. It can also applied seasonally for intensive growing. You cannot over apply glacial rock dust because it will not burn plants. You can also add glacial rock dust to your organic fertilizers, including compost, to enhance the performance of other fertilization methods.
Suggested Application Rates:
Raised beds and landscapes: Apply up to 25 lb. per 100 square feet. Gently dig into the soil surface up to once per year or as desired.
Transplanting and pre-mixing soil for containers: For hanging baskets, potted plants and planter boxes, mix 8 tablespoons into 1 gallon of soil or growing medium prior to planting.
Top dressing for containers: For hanging baskets, potted plants and planter boxes, use 4 tablespoons per 1 gallon of soil or growing medium. Gently till the glacial rock dust into the surface of the soil. Apply up to once per month or as desired.
Composting: Mix liberally into compost pile or tumbler to increase microbial activity during processing. Mix glacial rock dust into finished compost to improve mineral balance.
Please note: Glacial rock dust is a rich source of trace minerals and micronutrients, but it does not have qualifying levels of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium (N-P-K) to be listed as a fertilizer.
Add glacial rock dust to your organic fertilizing program to increase long-term soil vitality.
