Where to Locate:
Carefully choose a permanent site for your garden before filling the assembled container garden with soil. Make sure your garden is placed where it will receive full sun for at least six hours if the selected plants require full sun. We do not recommend moving the container garden once it is filled.
These planters are recommended for use on decks and patios. We do not recommend that these be placed on lawns or ground that can become uneven. Because these planters are supported by tall legs, it is important that they are level to ensure their structural integrity.
Soil to Use:
Ordinary garden soil is too heavy for container gardening and will pack down. A soil mixture should allow you to reach the bottom with your hands or hand tools. We recommend a light pre-mixed soil. Your local garden center or nursery can advise you on the best mixture for the type of plants you plan to grow. Be certain to provide the width, length, and depth of your garden so the garden center can advise you on the amount of soil mix you need to purchase. Some soil mixes need to be replaced each year while others may cost a little more but will last for several years.
Watering:
Your raised container garden gets air circulation from both the top and bottom, which promotes accelerated growth, but it also dries the soil out faster than in-ground planting. Water until the water drips through the bottom liner. When it stops dripping, water again. Light soil mixes take longer to absorb moisture, so the second watering assures even and complete absorption of moisture.
Fertilizing:
Select a fertilizer that meets the requirements of the plants you are growing. Follow the directions on the container. Keep in mind that frequent watering flushes nutrients out.

Questions about the Cedar Raised Garden Center

- From Jack at 2/26/13 7:09 AM
- What are the leg measurements, 2x2, 3x3, 2x4? I purchased a planter on line from another company and the legs were too small to give stability to the planter.
- The legs of the Cedar Raised Garden Center are 2x2s. Additional support is given by the tie in to the lower shelf. This planter is very stable.

- Do you also sell the mats separately when they need to be replaced?
- We can arrange to ship you a liner separately if needed. However, these liners are very robust with a thick matting which is reinforced with plastic ribbing. We have not had any reports of these liners wearing out.

- Does this come fully assembled except for putting in the fabric at bottom of planter?
- The Cedar Raised Garden Center is shiped in a flat container and comes partially assembled.
The sides are pre-assembled, but you have to screw the legs together and screw them to the sides. There are a few other details. You then lay the slats in place and put the liner on top.
The whole job takes about 15 mintes. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- Will the optional single order of potting soil fill the container or will more be needed?
- Wondersoil is a potting mix, to be used when you are planting starters in small pots. It is not intended to be the soil mix in your Garden Center. The Garden Center will hold about 8 cubic feet of soil.
Wondersoil is a complete rich potting mix compressed into dry compact wafers. The package holds 18 2½" wafers. Each wafer will expand to fill a 4” to 5” pot when water is added.

- Can this be used indoors?
- Yes, the Cedar Raised Garden Center can be used indoors.
The base of the Garden Center is two crossed layer of cedar slats which are covered with a two-ply fabric with plastic mesh reinforcement. This is water permeable in case you over-water the soil. We have had one of these units for several years on our deck and I have never seen a drop of water on the deck. This is because we haven't over saturated the soil.
If you have this indoors, you will most likely pay attention to the amount of water you add to your plants. However, if you are concerned that you may over-water, then you can place a small tray on the built-in shelf below the growing container. Even a cookie sheet would do the job. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

Disappointing
By on 6/16/13
I received the Cedar Raised Garden Center as a gift and am thankful I didn't waste $300 of my own money! The video on the site does not at all help explain how to assemble this product. The instructions were not easy to follow and we had to search online for a photo of the finished product to determine where to start. It took two people over an hour to assemble. The quality of construction is poor and the corners do not match up nicely. I would not recommend this to others.

Beautiful deck garden
By on 4/22/13
I am very pleased with this garden. The height is perfect and it will hold plenty of plants. The wood grain is beautiful and it was easy to assemble. Some of the screw holes were not drilled but that was an easy fix. It looks so beautiful on my deck that I am ordering one more!

Poor quality for the money
By on 3/31/13
The website pictures looks great. After putting it together, there are gaps between corner piece and top boards. The top board is nailed on, and came right off when I was unpacking it. Wood is splintered and poor quality...saw pencil marks for the cuts that were made...Just really disappointed for the money.

Good product and excellent customer service
By on 2/16/13
I had some shipping issues but Sara at Eartheasy solved the problem with excellent follow-up. The wood quality in my planter was all good. With the help of the assembly video I was able to put it together fairly quickly ... and, I am a real mechanical Klutz. I did find that many pieces didn't have the pilot holes as described in the video so I had to drill my own.

Stable Unit but poor Wood Quality and cutting / Instructions
By on 4/2/12
I kinda expected the instructions to be bad based on other reviews however, neither the video on this site of the one from the Mfr in the instruction paper were correct. Also, the finish of the wood and connections on both videos look perfect but in reality it is no where near it. All in all, the size worked for me and couldnt find much else. Pricing similar wood to this from Home Depot to build by yourself cost about the same. I picked up some nice cherry stain which made it look better. Also, even though they mentioned Cedar will not rot on this site, the Mfr in the maintenance section says otherwise. It will rot when exposed to moisture constantly. Considering you have wet soil in this all the time, I would say you have a problem. Suggest you put a couple of coats of good selant to make it last a bit longer.

Good Price
By on 3/25/12
Decent price for basic construction large planter with shelf. Mostly easy assembly with one person, but directions need clarity with leg positions, but not hard to figure out. Free shipping is a major plus. Decent product compared to other products on the market. Terrific if you don't want to be bending or sitting on the ground to garden.

Disappointing! First, there were no instructions. There is a YouTube video that's close, but not exact by any stretch.
Second, the wood quality is marginal. Staples, splinters, and chips/dents.
Third, the corner connections are poor. I had to trim leg height to fit caps onto the leg tops. Frame pieces did not butt-up to adjacent pieces. Poor mitering...
Finally, got too many slivers to order any similar products. Not sure how long it will last, but I'm not filled with confidence.

WOW!
By on 11/21/11
Received my Garden Center last Friday and assembled it yesterday. Wow! It is larger and more solid than expected. This is a real statement piece and we are putting it on the patio rather than beside the garden shed as planned. It is too beautiful to hide.
I keep looking at it and saying Wow!

elegant
By on 5/7/11
Our "Garden Center" from Eartheasy arrived yesterday and it seems to be a much better value than the two planters we bought at a garden center nearby. The wood is smooth and higher quality than the knotty cedar planters.
The unit is large and looks quite elegant on the porch.

Happy Camper
By on 5/2/11
Bought this on impulse, and am so glad I did! In addition to accolades ("pros"/above), shipping was very fast + inexpensive and packaging was well organized + protective (and recyclable) without being excessive.
One reviewer commented on "splintering" -- just want to A) agree that there was some (minimal) and, B) to emphasize that this is to be expected with cedar. Nothing that a quick, light sand won't fix.
The only drawback is the single-sided page of assembly instructions which, in my mind, warrants more specificity: STEP 2 - STEP 3 --
we scrapped the recco to loose-fit the whole in an upright square and, instead, met with quick success by securing one side's 1> upright legs to 2> corner caps to 3> "long" side boards (repeat for opposite side). The "short" side boards then fit in with precision, making the final turns of screws a cinch ... STEP 4 -- The two "notched 1 x 4s" should lie flat (NOT perpendicular) and abutted to each ("short") end (... the "Top View" illustration is a little vague here).
I also ordered the optional potting tray, which arrived perfectly pre-assembled + the hydroponic soil mix.
Overall high marks for a great product, and extra points for a good cause in Earth Easy.

I have been looking for a garden planter for some time. I saw this one mentioned in Martha Stewart Living. I checked it out online. It was the right size, the reviews were positive and I loved the cause. However, on receiving it, I was so disappointed. The materials are very inexpensive. They are splintering coming out of the box. The leg posts are not posts, they are square posts with 2 boards stapled to the side. You may not see knots, but you see staple marks all over the wood. I support earth easy's mission as well as that of this company, but the product is a huge let down.

beautiful wood
By on 1/19/11
It was a little tricky fitting the underlay mat into the slots on the bottom inside but we did get it to go in. My husband pointed out that there were no knots in the wood. The planter is very pleasing to the eye. The other planters on my patio and carport are also cedar, but the wood on them is not smooth like this planter. Now they all look rough compared to this one!
It is an elegant, classy looking planter and I think a real value.

bigger than expected, one flaw
By on 11/24/10
Our garden center arrived and went together OK.. But one of the little corner cap pieces was cracked. and my husband glued it so it doesn't break in two. The black mat for holding in the soil is very heay duty but was a little difficult sliding into position to fit under the notches.
Now that this is together it is the centerpiece of my patio. The wood sides are very smooth with no knots. It is a beautiful planter.

This raised planter is bigger and more substantial than I expected. The bottom slats are more than adequate to hold the weight of the soil and the bottom liner is very heavy duty. It was a pleasant surprise to see the manufacturer was not cutting corners!
I am a satisfied customer.
