I know for a fact that much of the time, doctors don't know what the hell they are doing when they prescribe drugs. Doing your own research in conjunction with seeing a doctor {I'd go for more than one doctor if it's a serious issue} can save a lot of discomfort AND money.

Great article - and totally true. So many people spend their lives chasing their material wants such as bigger and bigger homes that they miss out on all sorts of things. I am in the process of "down-sizing" when most of my friends are doing the opposite so that I have more time to do volunteer work and to go back and study a subject I'm passionate about at university.

We don't even look good nor do our houses. We are both big and gaudy.

We bought a older stone house in the southwest of France, solidly built with all its original features--a little painting and refinishing, and that's it. I am focusing my efforts are having a kitchen garden, continuing to cook from scratch like I always have, but this time with food that I have grown and preserved. We have no car and we chose the house to near good public transportation and basic shopping facilities. Next season, we are going to keep chickens, and then bees. So much, so interesting, keeps our minds alert and bodies in good shape.

Who wants to be average?!? I'd rather be that eccentric woman who doesn't have a car, but instead walks, bikes and buses everywhere, with her kids. I live in a big old old house (98 years old) and only I think the original wood flooring in the dining room makes it valuable, Most people just don't understand why it isn't replaced. i spend time cooking and then freezing batches of home cooked meals to pull out when I am in a rush or for the kids themos at school lunches.

I think you have made some excellent points. We keep buying into the standards set out for us rather than really sitting down and thinking about what is important to us. We look good but are swimming in debt and toxins. What is the point!
