The only thing that's going to solve the issue is a smaller population of humans that are hungry for fish. Once again that comes back around to enlightening people who oppose any sort of birth control, or voluntarily limiting family sizes. You have to treat the root cause of the problem rather than just the symptoms.

While we're getting our exploding numbers under control, though, the measures mentioned and proposed in the article could help limit damage that could be irreversible.

I see this article as a wake up call. It is not too late to save our fisheries if we all pitch in. For the average person is it not asking too much to get informed and make smart choices at the seafood counter? I have no patience for whiners who say all is lost and we are helpless to make a better future for ourselves.

This article makes a lot of sense. Much more so than the terrible examples set by eco-leaders generally.

Regarding the eco-leaders, I commit here and now not to use more than 80% of the energy every year that Al Gore uses, and no more than 70% of the amount that environmentalist John Travolta does.

Mr. Gore maintains a modest $30,000 annual heating and cooling bill for his residence in Tennessee alone. And, Mr. John Travolta is currently in possession of five high power jet planes, any one of which uses more fuel than my entire family would ever dream of using. Yet, for some reason, we look to both these men for eco-leadership. Are we insane?

With leaders like this, I know we will, working together, eventually win this battle.

Hopefully, unlike Global Warming, we have leaders like this author who is giving us a heads up regarding a real and immediate problem. Nothing here to debate about. We are depleting the seas, and it must stop.

I nearly went berserk the other day when the State Department admitted a woman from China into the States based on what she determined to be endangering her.

Reason: She wants to live in a place that encourages a woman to have six or more children which is her goal. Unbelievable. Here is a woman who will congratulate herself on the way home from the hospital stuck in a traffic jam with her newborn twins.
