really great ideas. I wonder if anyone has attempted this in areas of poverty. it seems as if these communities are not reflective of the populations of the majority of Americans. I don't mean this out of disrespect. I would love to see a model that has worked in impoverished communities and if this could be the key to lifting people from hunger and lack of basic necessities.

These people are leading the way, why don't we hear more about this movement? Today in the Guardian is an article about whistleblowers at the IEA who claim the oil reserve numbers are being deliberately inflated to avoid panic and to appease the US.
<a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/09/peak-oil-international-energy-agency" target="_blank">http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/09...</a>
I think these transition town advocates are the pioneers for our future way of life. Thanks for this article.

There's just SO much work that needs to be done to make society function without oil.. I just hope these people aren't giving up on trying to improve our global situation and the reduction of ghg emissions. The 'doom and gloom' people aren't helping much - we need to think more about a 'vibrant green future' instead, one that doesn't involve a 'massive population die-off' and so on...
