really great ideas. I wonder if anyone has attempted this in areas of poverty. it seems as if these communities are not reflective of the populations of the majority of Americans. I don’t mean this out of disrespect. I would love to see a model that has worked in impoverished communities and if this could be the key to lifting people from hunger and lack of basic necessities.

I looked into a transition town project before, but the requirements for getting in were so steep that I doubt that a lot of people would have even had a chance at getting in.

Politicians do all the talking while the people roll up their sleeves and deal with the problems. Maybe its not that simple but i'm thinking our leaders have their heads in the sand and their egos on a pedestal.

These people are leading the way, why don't we hear more about this movement? Today in the Guardian is an article about whistleblowers at the IEA who claim the oil reserve numbers are being deliberately inflated to avoid panic and to appease the US.

There's just SO much work that needs to be done to make society function without oil.. I just hope these people aren't giving up on trying to improve our global situation and the reduction of ghg emissions. The 'doom and gloom' people aren't helping much – we need to think more about a 'vibrant green future' instead, one that doesn't involve a 'massive population die-off' and so on…
